Ventanitas
These are small glimpses into the life of a woman who has inspired me or been a guiding light. I paint each one while trying to feel her essence, not just picture her face. Watercolor markers force me to work quickly, to trust my hand more than my planning, so the strokes emerge instinctually, like a breath.
The colors are a feeling, the day, the mood. I never chose a palette ahead of time. I just reach for the color that matches what I carry that day.
Each canvas holds the name of the woman I share it with: family, women I admire, women who taught me something even if they didn't intend to. You only ever see a part of her, an eye, a curve of color standing in for everything else, but the name makes her whole again.
Ventanitas means little windows in Spanish. Small openings you catch someone through, never the whole view, just enough to feel who's on the other side. The same way I still carry these women: not all at once, but in pieces, the parts that stayed with me.
